By Tess Cychosz, on May 9th, 2012 | Happenings Our very own Jeff Goodman is heading to The Great Escape in Brighton this weekend – and I have to say, I’m pretty jealous. Not only is Brighton one of the coolest towns I’ve ever been to (I mean, who doesn’t like a charming English coastal city?) but this year’s lineup is so killer. And we’re proud to say that over 50 of the acts playing this year are Sonicbids members.
Here’s the full list of the bands that got their gig at The Great Escape this year using Sonicbids. I’m telling ya, there’s not a bad band in the bunch here, but I’ve highlighted some of my personal favorites (aka, the bands that I’ll be crying a bit over when I think about how I’m not seeing them this weekend.)
And if you’ll be there this weekend, you can hassle Jeff @goodmanjeff!

By Tess Cychosz, on April 30th, 2012 | Musings If you consider yourself a music fan, you’re likely aware that April 21 was Record Store Day – one of the most wonderful days on the year where humankind celebrates the beauty of vinyl and the independently owned brick and mortar record stores that are still in existence. Don’t get me wrong: I love the ease and convenience of streaming services like Spotify and Rdio just as much as the next music listener, but I still stand by the idea that nothing beats a good old fashioned peruse of dusty vinyl on a Saturday afternoon.
Behold, evidence of our vinyl addiction.
Admittedly, I wasn’t able to get out to a store on the 21st, but during a weekend trip to Montreal, my audiophile boyfriend and I did some serious, serious damage and more than made up for it. (Click image to enlarge).
What you see there, dear friends, is the nearly 30 records purchased between the two of us. Some . . . → Read more

Katrina Stone performing at her all expenses paid gig at SXSW
What happens when a fierce red head with a smooth voice and a classy swagger mobilizes her fans to show their support in front of a national clothing brand? Well, in the case of Katrina Stone and maurices, the result was an all expenses paid gig at SXSW, a trip to gig at fancy corporate offices, an upcoming music video in L.A. completely covered and more. (Not too shabby, eh?) I had the distinct pleasure of hearing more from Katrina Stone and her experiences from winning maurices Hometown Sound.
Before we get into your latest happenings, tell me a little bit of your background.
I started singing when I was about 12. I decided I had a knack for it and studied classical, opera, and musical theater throughout high school. Somewhere along the way, I picked up piano as a means to accompany . . . → Read more

I know all eyes are on Austin right now, but sooner than you think, we’re going to be looking at 700 beautiful acres of Tennessee land, hosting some of the world’s best international talent. Yup, I’m talking the one and only Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Sonicbids and Bonnaroo have teamed up once again to give 10 bands the chance to perform at the summer’s hottest (figuratively and literally) festival. To gear up, I checked in with The Band of Heathens – one of the awesome bands that got their Bonnaroo gig on Sonicbids last year. Read on to hear a bit about this Austin-based Rock group, and click here to submit your band for Bonnaroo 2012.
For those who may not be familiar, give a little more background on the band. When did you guys first start playing music together?
The band has been together about 6 years. It really came together as an experiment and an opportunity to jam and have fun . . . → Read more
By Tess Cychosz, on February 23rd, 2012 | Happenings Hanging out in Memphis this weekend? Us too!
Panos (our founder) and Troy (who just joined Sonicbids to run our promoter network team) are going to be hanging around the Marriott for Folk Alliance this Friday and Saturday, Feb 24 & 25.
Saturday morning, Panos and Troy are hosting a breakfast for festivals attending Folk Alliance at 9:30 a.m. in the Heritage 2 Ballroom. If you’re a promoter or programmer for a festival, stop by, have some coffee and hang out. As always, Panos will be happy to meet you and even though Troy is new to Sonicbids, he’s a 25-year veteran of the music business who ran A&R at Rounder, booked tours at William Morris and was a talent buyer for one of San Francisco’s most prestigious venues. He would love to introduce himself!
Following that, Panos will be moderating a panel: “What Makes a festival successful for the long run?” at 10:30 a.m. in Heritage 4. The details are below. Hope that we’ll see you there!
