Find me on:
New Zealand pop-jazz-funk princess Kimbra may have walked on the scene as Gotye’s golden girl in “Somebody That I Used To Know” but her first US release Vows certainly proves she has the chops to stand alone.

Vows, released Tuesday on WMG, is the much-anticipated US debut from the songstress. And while the record is something she’s been working on since she was 17, her revamped US release plays to her pop sensibilities and vocal strengths. In fact, it's her unique voice that stands out between the boom-baps and handclaps. She twists and belts her voice into sonic bliss over and over. But it's teaming with producers Mike Elizondo (worked with Dr. Dre) & Greg Kurstin (worked with Flaming Lips and the Shins) that proved to be the something special the record needed (the US release includes 5 new tracks from the collaboration).

In a sentence, Kimbra’s latest can be described as looped and layered upbeat jazzy funk retro pop with a side of Kiwi sass. Can’t miss tracks, “Settle Down,” “Come into my Head,” and “Something in the Way You Are.”
