Named after lead singer Cody Bower's favorite words (his daughter is also named Indigo), alternative rock band Mammoth Indigo is equally matched in talent and drive. With three tours under their belts since their self-titled debut album released last year, the band is taking some well-deserved time off to focus on their sophomore release. After their most recent US national tour, we spoke with Bower about opening for Local Natives, their upcoming album, the band's music licensing deal through Sonicbids and Tinderbox Music, as well as advice for other unsigned artists.

You recently played the Fashion Meets Music Festival in Columbus, OH, with Local Natives through Sonicbids. How did this experience open new doors for you guys?

Hanging out with bands we look up to like Local Natives, Maps and Atlases, and the Soil & the Sun at FMMF was really surreal. We even ended up supporting the Soil & the Sun on two Virginia dates during our November tour. Having connections with bands we admire is extremely rewarding. We'll always be grateful for the friendship and advice Local Natives and the Soil & the Sun have given to us. Their guidance has served as great motivation coming from two bands that truly lead by example.

What can you tell us about the new album you have in the works?

We're taking this next group of songs very seriously. There's already a cohesiveness that makes the writing process exciting. You can expect each of us to be playing quite a few instruments, often multiple at the same time. We've toured a few recording studios around the US and finally feel we may have found our winter home in northern New York. We know our fans are ready for these new recordings, and that makes us proud.

How does the upcoming album differ from your self-titled debut?

We want the new songs to be a logical follow-up to Mammoth Indigo. On the contrary, I do notice that there's been a spooky trend to the writing. You can expect a blend of objective and abstract lyricism and, naturally, more musicianship instrumentally. We like to let the music speak for itself.

What's the key to all the success you've had with getting opportunities through Sonicbids?

We've really taken advantage of both free and paid opportunities on the site. Sonicbids allows indie artists to be their own booking agents and managers. We won an opportunity with Tinderbox Music licensing to have our music played on the Discovery Network. We can't express how many doors can open from having a complete profile that exhibits your band to industry professionals.

We try to keep our profile updated with current photos and feel that keeping up with press clippings is important. We want to show that we are staying current and that our momentum is constantly growing. Videos are also important to us. We recently released two music videos over the past few months that have gotten great feedback from our fans and Sonicbids contacts.

You just finished your US tour. Where can fans see you next?

We're taking the winter to hibernate and record our next work. Our fans can expect a few shows during the coming months as well as a new music video with Pando Creative Co. The spring and summer will be full of US dates and beyond.
