SXSW 2013 Band To Watch: Hey Marseilles

SXSW is hot. It is amazing; the most fun ever really, but there is no denying that it is crowded and sweaty and, yes, hot.

Fortunately Hey Marseilles will be down in Austin bringing a cool sea breeze to SXSW with them. When I play the Seattle seven-piece I can literally smell the salt air. And trust me, when all you smell for a week is BBQ, American Spirits and BO it’s a welcome change of pace.

The boys of Hey Marseilles released their second album Lines We Trace today!

You can see how they made it below, and you can see them in action at Sonicbids Official SXSW Party on Friday, March 15th at 4:30pm at Maggie Mae’s. RSVP Here.

Interview with Bonnaroo Alumni: The Band of Heathens

I know all eyes are on Austin right now, but sooner than you think, we’re going to be looking at 700 beautiful acres of Tennessee land, hosting some of the world’s best international talent. Yup, I’m talking the one and only Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Sonicbids and Bonnaroo have teamed up once again to give 10 bands the chance to perform at the summer’s hottest (figuratively and literally) festival. To gear up, I checked in with The Band of Heathens – one of the awesome bands that got their Bonnaroo gig on Sonicbids last year. Read on to hear a bit about this Austin-based Rock group, and click here to submit your band for Bonnaroo 2012.

For those who may not be familiar, give a little more background on the band. When did you guys first start playing music together?

The band has been together about 6 years. It really came together as an experiment and an opportunity to jam and . . . → Read more

Announcing Clock Opera to Play our Official SXSW Party!

Yup, you read that right. Clock Opera is joining us for what we think is shaping up to be the best party at SXSW! Of course, we’re a little bias, but if you know Clock Opera, you’re probably shaking your head in agreement right at this minute. If you’re not familiar with Clock Opera, these UK blokes are an act impossible to miss at this year’s festival and if you read on, you’ll begin to see why.

You guys have been making some waves in the UK, but why don’t you tell us a bit about the band and where you’re coming from for those who aren’t familiar?

Hello, we’re Guy, Andy, Dan & Che. We’re new here. Show us round? We play songs which have been mentioned alongside words like euphoric, infectious, intricate, experimental/accessible. Please listen and decide for yourself. The songs are most often made by taking music to bits, reassembling it, singing over the top and adding whatever junk people . . . → Read more

Announcing Oh Mercy to Play our SXSW Party!

Man, I’m having a great time being the bearer of awesome news this week. Today, we’re announcing Oh Mercy to play the Sonicbids Official SXSW Party, presented by JanSport and our friends at Planetary Group! Join Oh Mercy and us for the party all day Friday, March 16 from 11:30-5:30 at Maggie Mae’s.

Oh Mercy, headed by Alexander Gow, has been turning some serious heads these days, so we couldn’t be more excited to have them on board. Their new album, Great Barrier Grief, debuted at number 13 on the Australian ARIA album chart and was recently nominated for two ARIA Awards. The album was featured on Triple J radio Australia, 3fm in The Netherlands and added to over 100 US College radio stations while the bizarrely subtle video clip for the single “Stay, Please Stay” quickly surpassed 200,000 plays on YouTube. (Check it out, below!)
