It’s always amazing to me what stories seem to capture the imagination of the media and which don’t.

My first memory as a two-year old is war in my native country of Cyprus that left over a third of the population of a very small island homeless and Nicosia, my home city, split in two – the last divided capital in the world. Most people have no clue.

Last week, while the Cumberland River overflowed by relentless rain that pelted Nashville, and which flooded Music City, USA, most of us were focused on other things: car bombs, oil spillages, our own problems.

The early reports that we are hearing and reading are unbelievable: many are dead, thousands of people lost their possessions, and, close to home, national music landmarks like the Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame have sustained unimaginable water damage.
