CBGB1

CBGB has defined music and culture for generations of people around the world. Universally recognized as the birthplace of punk, CBGB continues to define new music and popular culture by fostering live performances & personal expression from artists around the city and across the globe. This year's CBGB Festival was a four day celebratory showcase of music, film, distilled spirits and learning. Spanning over four days, October 9th-12th, hundreds of performers showcased concerts throughout the five boroughs of NYC, kicking off an amazing event. For this week's showcase, we highlighted five Sonicbids artists who were chosen to play.

AstroAttack

Never been to Japan? Well in case you were wondering, they rock just as hard as we do here in the States. AstroAttack traveled all the way from Kobe, Japan to perform at this year's CBGB Festival and prove just that to thousands of American music fans. Their sound comprises a mix of shoegaze elements and heavy-hitting guitar riffs that are sure to make your earholes tingle. Check out the track "Searchlights" from their debut self-titled LP and you'll hear exactly what we're talking about.

Black Owls

Very few bands rock like the Black Owls do. Imagine the sound that a dragon would make on top of a battleship with wheels fueled by the explosions of a trillion stars rolling across the continental US. And then realize that the music of the Black Owls is the closet thing that you will ever come to that in real life. And it is pure awesome. Self-professed Mennonite Glam rockers from Ohio, they bring back waves of nostalgia from days of strippers, blacked out tour vans, and good old classic rock. Contradictory you say? Modern rock isn’t classic you say? I say thee nay sir, nay.

Matt Jaffe & the Distractions

Seeing young, motivated people accomplishing awesome things in their careers is always something I'm happy to see.  And when young folks like Matt Jaffe & the distracts make awesome music, its just that much better.  The San Francisco native makes the best kind of rock and roll, the kind you rock out to.  Bouncing rhythms complimented by a rough around the edges approach makes for an unmistakable and unforgettable sound.  One listen to MJ & and the Distractions and you'll be nodding your head for days.

The Chorderoys

You can't spell MURICA without The Chorderoys.  These fellas have the three ultimate keys to success: A unique voice, catchy melodies, and awesome lyrics that revolve around girls and the the good ole U S of A.  These four awesome hooligans hail from the veritable musical hotbed of Austin, Texas and they are coming to a city near you.  We have high hopes for this act and look forward to seeing where they take it from her.

The Pinz

Smells like teen spirit.  Actually, smells like the 90's punk scene has finally returned with a stronger indie, alt, rock vibe.  The Pinz, are a Jacksonville Florida based trio who have played at some of the best festivals around the country.  They've been on the scene since 09', providing fans with the daily recommended dose of nostalgia.  Well constructed instrumentation and complimentary vocal runs make The Pinz a band to keep an ear and out eye for.  Check out their EPAnti-Complacency League.
