Capitals Rock Underage Fest

Edinburgh is known typically known for its beautiful Old Towne and winding roads. But now, Edinburgh is getting love for the love child of Angus Carbarns and Keir MacCulloch, Capitals. The band’s melodic and electronic sounds have landed them on stages like Rockness, Underage Festival and garnered them love from BBC Radio 1. We recently caught up with Carbarns after Capitals performance at Underage Festival (a gig they landed through Sonicbids) to chat about the show and what’s up next for the duo.

You’ve played a few major festivals now with Capitals and with your other projects, how was playing Underage Festival?

Pretty much from the minute we arrived on site, all the production staff knew exactly what was going on (which isn't always the case at big festivals), and we felt well looked after. We were treated warmly and with respect by all the festival staff we met, and the stage crew was great too.  With it being our first gig in London, I think Underage festival served us really well as an introduction to new audiences which is something we aim to capitalize on.

London is known for music lovers. How was the audience for your set?

Being a band from Scotland with little exposure down south, it was perhaps inevitable that drawing a crowd would be difficult.  But in fact, the crowd that did turn up to our set were more enthusiastic than we could have hoped for, and I think making a positive impression on a smaller crowd is more important than having little effect on a large crowd.

If you could sum up your experience playing at Underage Festival in one sentence, what would you say?

It was a pretty amazing day; beautiful weather, good music, appreciative crowd, great atmosphere.

Do you have any upcoming shows that you are excited about?

Since playing Underage, the band has arranged some really exciting shows.  We had a show in Berlin, along with tours planned for both the UK and Europe for much of 2012.

Keep an eye out for the Capitals on the road and their release in 2012.  Below is their video for Hello World.
