Folk Alliance 2010 Photos, Video and More!

Written by Tess Cychosz | Feb 26, 2010 08:39 PM

As promised, here’s a bunch of content that I collected while at Folk Alliance 2010 last weekend in Memphis. Panos already gave a few photos and talked about his experiences and observations (read them here; good stuff). But I wanted to show all of the awesome photos and videos we got from our trip, and give a little narrative of our time.

We got in late Friday night, which allowed some time to scarf down some Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken and catch some showcases. Saturday morning we had a breakfast meeting at “The Arcade” – which according to (confirmed) legend, was one of Elvis’ favorite hangs back in the day. From breakfast, we went straight to the panel that Panos spoke at, “GET PLAYED, GET PAID: How Recording Artists Can Maximize Opportunities and Income in the Digital Environment” and I posted a few Tweets about all the good things discussed.

After the panel, we had a teeny bit of free time so Panos took me to see Sun Studios (incredible stuff) and then went off to meet our members for our Member Dinner and got lots of feedback. The day ended with a very long and amazing evening of fantastic artist showcases. The quality of musicians blew me away. You must check out all the videos I took on our Sonicbids YouTube.

Panos left early Sunday morning to catch an 8am flight to France for business (I don’t know how that man does it all), while I got up to see the National Civil Rights Museum. It wasn’t open yet, but I did see the outside of the Loraine Hotel – being there when no one else was around was a very powerful experience. My cab driver back to the airport was a lovely woman who talked with me about all of the “old school Soul tunes” that she liked to listen to on the radio. Best cab ride I’ve ever had. I was sad to leave.
