This year, The John Lennon Songwriting Contest is giving away their biggest prize package yet totaling over $300,000! Every year, there are a total of 72 Finalists, 24 Grand Prize Winners, 12 Lennon Award Winners and 1 “Song of the Year.” Along with the songwriting contest, Sonicbids members also have the oppurtunity to submit to play The NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA. We sat down with The John Lennon Songwriting Contest and ask them some questions on the event. Find out what they had to say:

What are some tips to get noticed by The John Lennon Songwriting Contest?

Submit songs that you have put your whole heart, soul and craft into for our judges to take notice. The quality of the recording does not matter, the judges are listening strictly for well-written songs which exhibit strong melodies, lyrics (when applicable), great composition and originality.

What stands out to you when you review a song submission?

Whether it's an overall vibe of the songwriting or a specific lyric, melody or chord change that jumps out of the speakers, originality always stands out; we're looking for something that will change the temperature of the room. The most difficult thing about being a songwriter is trying to capture what's already been written by the greats like John Lennon, but writing it in a new unique way.

What's one thing you'd like everyone to know about The JLSC?

The JLSC has been in existence since 1997 and is undoubtedly the most proven and legitimate international songwriting contest in the world. Being associated with John Lennon, who is arguably one of the best and well-known songwriters of all time is an invaluable asset to a songwriter/artist and their career. We also offer a $20,000 Song of the Year prize included in over $300,000 worth of prizing for 72 winners in 12 different categories from our amazing sponsors. In addition to being a year-long songwriting contest, we also run The John Lennon Educational Tour Busses in both The United States and Europe, which are non-profit state-of-the-art mobile audio and HD video recording and production facilities. Many of our JLSC winners are able to join us on the bus to perform and record their own music; this creates a very unique and special opportunity for our family of winners.

What are your favorite JLSC memories?

It's difficult to pick a favorite, but most recently our past JLSC Song of the Year winner Gaby Moreno received a Latin Grammy nomination! We couldn't be prouder, as she recently also performed at our Lennon Bus Europe launch party at the The Cavern Club in Liverpool, UK.

What's your favorite thing about The JLSC?

Giving songwriters/artists the opportunity to further their careers and open doors. We are there with all of our 72 winners each year nurturing their songwriting and artistic talents in any way we can.

If you could say one thing to a band thinking of submitting to JLSC but not quite sure, what would you say?

The track record and history of this contest speaks for itself. Our contest winners have gone on to do everything from receive Grammy nominations, tour the world, have lucrative and career-launching song placements, sign record/publishing deals, perform on late night television, etc. We are a very tight-knit organization run by musicians who understand what musicians need; we really try to assist our contestants and go above and beyond to do whatever we can do to help their careers. Would you like to join the family of winners and have your name associated with John Lennon's?
