Let us Give Thanks to Music: Our Thanksgiving Playlist

Written by Robert Nicholson | Nov 29, 2013 04:05 PM

The pilgrims always said eating is best done with a soundtrack, so to help you drizzle some funk on your turkey, and top your mashed potatoes with some pop, we put together a list of songs made for feasting. With the first snow fall of the season behind us, it is time to break out the bourbon, and enjoy some music over the holiday weekend. Check out our playlist below.

Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater
With the leaves officially gone, and foliage over, it is hard to grasp the fact that fall is at its end and winter is almost upon us. Lets just pretend it isn't coming, and we still have five more months of sweater season.

Fat Boys - All You Can Eat
Don't be ashamed of that second or third helping. Just basetalk a nap, and pretend it never happened. Eat up my friends, eat up!

Manu Chao - Me Gustas Tu
I am grateful for a lot of things, music being one of them. This year it is a goal of mine to make of list of the things I am grateful for, translate them into Spanish, and cover this song.

The Shins - Young Pilgrims
I wonder what young pilgrims did for fun? No Internet, no Spotify, no Xbox? Sounds tough, or completely amazing. I am undecided.

The National - Mr. November
Thanksgiving is Mr November, the procrastinating show off! Stealing all the fame from Veterans Day, only to show up on the last week of the month. Typical Football Holiday!

Glass Candy - Warm in the Winter
This song talks about using the warmth of love to stay warm in the winter. I drink bourbon. Both have the same end goal, and that is all that counts.

Blind Melon - Tones of Home
I love going home, but hate doing it on Thanksgiving. For the last four years, I have had to remind my family that I am a vegetarian, yet every year they seem to forget why I am not eating turkey. The tone of my home is confusing, and tastes like salad.

Portugal. The Man - So American
Every country should celebrate being thankful in one way or another. We do it by eating heaps of food, and watching Football. It is the American way.

My Morning Jacket - Thank You Too!
It is always good to say thanks to a thanks. It shows you are courteous, and are paying attention. Spread the Thanksgiving love, and thank a thanks!

Adam Sandler - The Thanksgiving Song
Yup, it made it on the list, along with every other Thanksgiving playlist out there. Sandler is a pro at holiday songs, now if he could only start making good movies again.

Kanye West - The Good Life
Be grateful for your life, and find the good in it. Hell, Kanye just lost 13 million dollars trying to sell clothes that no one wants to buy. Is that stopping his Thanksgiving? Probably not.

Talking Heads - This Must be The Place
Greatest song ever. I am thankful for David Byrne, and his magically troupe of musicians. But honestly, this is a beautiful song, and the perfect song to play at home with your family. Enjoy!

Animal Collective - Applesauce
Applesauce is an underdog at the Thanksgiving day feast. No meal is complete without it, and no playlist is complete with Animal Collective. It is a win-win.
