With summer not too far away, you’re all probably making your plans for shows, tours, recording and more. And while most might want to head south for warmer climates, I’ve got my sights set on Canada. They have an amazing schedule of festivals on the rise, all of which you can submit to through Sonicbids. Check ‘em out:
Petite-Nation Rockfest 2011 - In June 2011 the 6th edition of Quebec's largest annual rock festival, Petite-Nation Rockfest, will jumpstart the summer. Over 100 bands will perform in beautiful Montebello, Quebec on the outdoor stages at the Marina, as well as at local venues over the course of five days. Lamb of God, NOFX, and Underoath have already been announced for 2011. Announcements about additional performers are coming soon. The deadline to submit is April 15.
Sled Island Festival - Sled Island Festival is a 4-day long, multi-venue festival that showcases a wide variety of emerging and established talent. It has hosted musicians such as Girl Talk, Broken Social Scene, Yo la Tango, Wire, RZA, Of Montreal, Tegan and Sara, Portastatic, and many, many more. Approximately 17,500 people attend the various rooms and the central venue over the course of the festival. There are 60 guaranteed slots for Sonicbids artists. Artists will be compensated $100 and receive passes to the festival. The deadline to submit is March 18.
S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival 2011 - S.C.E.N.E. is the St. Catharines Event for New music Entertainment, a locally based independent music festival. It has into one of the largest and most anticipated one-day, all-ages, independent music festivals in Canada. While maintaining the original 1995 festival's strong focus on Niagara-based independent acts, the S.C.E.N.E. Festival has become a drastically more diverse event. Last year’s 14th annual S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival drew over 6000 people, and attracted industry and media interest from throughout North America. The deadline to submit is April 10.
Pop Montreal 2011 - POP Montreal is a grassroots festival created and supported by people who love music and live performance. Founded in 2002 by fans and supporters of music, it has expanded in scope and vision every year, and will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year. The 2011 festival will take place September 21st to the 25th in over 40 venues throughout Montreal. There will be at least 20 slots reserved for Sonicbids artists. Selected artists will be compensated for their performance(s). In 2010, more than 45 Sonicbids bands showcased at POP Montreal. The deadline to submit is May 13.
Cavendish Beach Music Festival 2011 - The 2011 Cavendish Beach Music Festival combines the world’s greatest "country" music talent performing live in the breathtaking Avonlea Village of Cavendish Beach, thereby linking the viewers to their favorite artists in a landmark location that typically would be visited only in their "dreams." Selected artists will be used to support the national headliners on the "Main" stage, and/or performances in the intimate settings of “The Kitchen" stage. Selected artists will be compensated up to $1,000 with lodging. The deadline to submit is May 13.
New Music West 2011 - Artists can submit to play one of Western Canada's most important live music showcases, NewMusicWest. The fest boasts big names such as Gene Simmons, Marilyn Manson, Nickelback, and Modest Mouse, and at least 20 Sonicbids are guaranteed to perform. The festival is back for 2011, and as always, is a huge opportunity for emerging new artists and bands to showcase their talents and gain exposure to new fans, industry and radio. An industry conference is also open to everyone interested in learning about the music industry, especially the bands. The deadline to submit is May 1.
