I’ve been meaning to write about my day in San Francisco last week but got kind of busy late in the week releasing some software. This was my first time at this event and I have to say it was a pretty fun music technology event (there aren’t enough good ones!).
One of the most fun sessions was the one by Moldover on “Controllerism”. His ability to quickly produce interesting, original music on the spot using hand-created controllers was fascinating. He also wins the award for the most interesting cd case I have seen recently! Watch the video here.
Maybe more relevant for many of you would be the presentation by Next Big Sound. Sounds like they are working hard to help artists track their own web stats and keep an eye on how many mentions they get. They’ve been doing this for a while, but now they are working on a paid offering that looked like an interesting dashboard view. Probably worth checking out, though I don’t see it on their web site yet.
Some other fun conversations:
- interesting discussion on how artists can manage their data both from the perspective of owning their data, but also from the point of view of standardizing data so that all of us building technology can help move data back and forth a lot easier.
- another discussion about building scalable web sites including folks like Twitter and Pandora. Summary: it’s hard.
Hopefully there will be more interesting events like this one coming up!
