More widely known as the front woman of the popular upbeat alternative rock band Allura, Inch Chua steps out on her own to share a different beat. Inspired by singer-songwriters such as Fiona Apple, Roisin Murphy, Shiina Ringo and electronic acts like Bjork, The Aphex Twin, The Postal Service, Inch's solo project is a clear departure from the boisterous rock she is known for. The material is a schizophrenic potpourri of introspective acoustic tunes and chirpy electronica. What remains unmistakable is the pint-sized singer's trademark powerhouse vocals. We had the chance to chat with the singer about her love of Spotify stalking, her favorite show, and where you can see her next.
What do you hope listeners will get from your music?
I hope that they will be consoled or encouraged! And would have the urge to catch me live!
What’s the best gig you ever played?
The best place I've played at was as this independently organized gig called Love Is Indie Air and it was at this really funky artsy joint in Singapore - Blu Jaz. It was a really cozy show, the place had no stage & an amp that blew but it was a packed crowd that was just plain crazy. I probably lost twice my weight in water while perspiring.
What’s your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?
SPOTIFY! It’s just amazing how people can share and discover music so easily and at no expense with Spotify. It’s so convenient to stalk someone's music taste via Facebook thanks to Spotify.
What’s your favorite way/tool/site for you to interact with your fans in the digital age? Do you recommend anything to other artists?
Facebook is probably the most recognized and most widely used platform out that now. But my personal favorite has to be YouTube. It’s amazing how one can interact with the usual comments, polls & video response functions. A site I recommend would be Livestream because it truly gives your fans a direct interaction in real time. It’s like a meet-and-greet with the multitudes.
What’s your next big gig coming up? When/Where?
I'm please to announce that I've been invited to both SXSW 2012 as well as the Canadian Music Festival!
