Since summer is around the corner, we’ve been gearing up with tunes from the West Coast that make us think of sunshine and heat waves. Check out the first 5 songs of our West Coast playlist here and learn a bit more about these amazing Sonicbids artists below.

Geographer: This California trio may have formed during a dark time in their lives, but their songs are definitely meant to lift your mood. With angelic vocals and soaring melodies over thumping beats, there’s no way you can’t be in a great, shimmering mood when listening to them.

Next tour stops:

8/10/12          San Francisco, CA                   Golden Gate Park Outside Land Festival

Fences: The brainchild of Christopher Mansfield, Fences is the ultimate feel-good music for a long drive up the coast. And with friends like Tegan and Sara in his corner, there’s no doubt you’ll be hearing more from this masterful pop songwriter for many years to come. Stay tuned for his next album, which he’s currently recording now!

Yppah: Now, a West Coast playlist just isn’t right without some ambient electronica in the mix. Enter Yppah – the young Californian DJ providing us with a lush mix of beautiful and often times melancholic electronica and psychedelic shoegaze melodies. And if the tunes sound familiar, it’s because you probably heard it on the latest episode of “CSI” or “House”.

Next tour stops:

5/9/12            Los Angeles, CA                       The Echo

Brite Futures: Here’s your party starter. Brite Futures are all about shiny disco beats, synth-drenched dance numbers, and funky melodies. Described as New Wave meets the best of Abba, you’re sure to be grooving all night. And with their new album DARK PAST out now, you’ll have plenty more tunes to rock to.

Nesta Rae: Some artists’ songs just warm the soul. Take Nesta Rae, a carefree surfer girl whose gorgeous acoustic songs make me think of soaking up the sun on the beach, warm soda and bad sunburn and all. That much Vitamin D just makes you feel good – and her songs are the perfect soundtrack to that West Coast state of mind.
