With the festival taking place practically in our backyard, the Sonicbids crew was out in full force to check out headlining acts like Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend, and Kendrick Lamar perform alongside Sonicbids bands Viva Viva and Royal Teeth.
Royal Teeth and Viva Viva were selected from hundreds upon hundreds of Sonicbids artists that submitted for a chance to land on the lineup.
And yeah, they killed it.
On Saturday, I realized that this was my first time seeing Viva Viva in so much light. Sure, I’d seen them before, but usually in the dark clubs of Boston or Cambridge. Viva Viva however transported the early festivalgoers from the sunny, breezy Boston Calling grounds at Government Center to the dark, musty cavern of the Middle East Downstairs thanks to a raucous set. Their blistering blues/punk set included songs from their new EP Dead In Yr Tracks and set the tone for an amazing Boston Calling Music Festival.
Royal Teeth**I thought I was in love after hearing
Royal Teeth’s acoustic set at a Sonicbids office gig, but after their live performance at Boston Calling on Sunday, that love is now an obsession. As I prepare to leave on my own backpacking adventure, I can think of no better soundtrack to plug in my ears than "Glow," which is pretty much an album of exploration and wanderlust. If you haven't listened to this indie-pop band yet, you are missing out on so much.
If you're experiencing FOMO right now, I get it. These two days will never be replicated exactly again, BUT you can play gigs like this. Sonicbids has hundreds of listings open right now.
