Heat Wave: Summer Festivals Worth Checking Out

Summer is sneaking up on us a lot sooner than you think. Are you ready for heat waves and sunscreen? We sure are. We recently opened submissions for one of the summer’s biggest fests - Bonnaroo, but if you can't make it, here are some other MAJOR festivals this summer that are totally worth checking out:

goNORTH – goNORTH is Scotland’s largest music industry event featuring over 60 bands across two nights. The fest highlights the best emerging talent from Scotland, the rest of the UK and a selection of international contenders. goNORTH is guaranteeing at least 34 performance slots for Sonicbids members. As a part of the new goNORTH Festival Tour, all acts selected to showcase at goNORTH 2011 will also get the opportunity to showcase at festivals such as the award-winning Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, Loopallu and Wickerman. The deadline to submit is March 28.

Summerfest 2011 – The World's Largest Music Festival and Milwaukee's cornerstone summer celebration attracts the music industry's hottest stars, emerging talent and local favorites. Summerfest will fill 60 slots with Sonicbids artists. All selected artists will be compensated for their performances. This year The Black Keys, Katy Perry, Toby Keith, Florence + the Machine and Cage the Elephant are all confirmed to perform. The deadline to submit is March 31.

Wakarusa Music Festival – The Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival is a premiere, grassroots event in the nationwide outdoor music scene that attracts folks from all 50 U.S. states and several countries. At least two Sonicbids artists are guaranteed to perform, and confirmed 2011 headliners include: My Morning Jacket, Thievery Corporation, Umphrey's McGee, Mumford & Sons, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Buckethead and many more. Selected artists will be compensated. The deadline to submit is April 1.



50th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival – The 50th Annual Philadelphia Folk Festival, presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society (PFS), is the longest continuously running festival of its kind in the country.  PFS accepts both established and emerging artists to total more than 60 hours of music on 5 stages. Two slots are reserved for Sonicbids artists, and all selected artists will be paid. Pay range is $100-$5,000 for emerging artists. The deadline to submit is April 30.

Common Ground Festival 2011 – The Common Ground Festival is an event for all your senses. This annual celebration features an outstanding line-up of musical acts, focusing on top-level, national, contemporary music performers, scores of food vendors, and a dynamic display of outdoor interactive activities for kids. Selected artists will be used to support the national headliners or as a headliner on the Sandbar Stage. All selected artists will be compensated up to $1,000 with hotel room and hospitality. The deadline to submit is May 13.
