When/How did you first start playing music?
Everyone started at different times. I started playing piano around age 2 when my mom enrolled me in pre-school music lessons. The boys mostly started in junior high and had their first bands together by age 11 or 12.
What's the best gig you ever played?
Gold Motel's record release show at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. At the time, we had self-released our album and managed to bring a few hundred people to celebrate the release. We felt overwhelmingly grateful and accomplished.
How has social media effected the way you market/promote your music?
It's been a great and instant way to keep in touch with fans! One of the coolest social media projects we've done is our current remix contest through Indaba which allows fans to remix our new song "Cold Shoulders" and enter to win a Korg keyboard, a box of D'Addario strings, and a feature on Grooveshark. Also, having fans on our email list has allowed us to give them touring news, music video updates, and more info before the rest of the world.
What's your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?
Music players will probably be implanted in our brains eventually, though that may not be for 10-20 years.
You’ll be playing our SXSW party! What are your SXSW plans?
We are also playing the D'Addario stage and a Billboard showcase. Our other SXSW plans will include visiting those gourmet food trucks and hanging out with a bunch of other friends in bands who will also be in town.
Any other big gigs coming up? When/Where?
We have a few bits of big news to announce, but cannot announce for a while. Join the email list to get the news first!
