When/How did you first start playing music?
I first started playing drums and bass guitar in primary school. If you’re a kid, it's certainly nice to find something productive to do with your time, and I really enjoyed it. When I turned 14 I started playing in bands, which I found even more fun than playing on my own. The first couple of bands I played in were extremely noisy and loose, but that's all part of the fun really.
What's the best gig you ever played?
It’s hard to say definitively but recently The Barons of Tang performed at WOMAD in New Zealand and that was an amazing experience. I've never seen so many smiling faces in my life.
How has social media effected the way you market/promote your music?
Marketing in modern times is an extremely finite thing, but one constant remains and that's knowing your demographic. Social media, although sometimes seemingly overwhelming, is really just a bridge to your audience and should be treated as such. I, personally, love being handed a crappy flyer at a gig that someone has made themself. Romance ain't just candle lit dinners!
What's your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?
Lets face it, soon we'll just plug it into our spines and that'll be it, right?
What's your next big gig coming up? When/Where?
The Barons of Tang are performing at the Northcote Social Club on April 30th in Melbourne, Australia (our home town) before we head off on a 10-week tour of the USA.
