Find me on:
Tic Tic Boom! is all heart and angst wrapped up in synthesized musings and wandering guitar riffs.  Whether pondering life and death or the aftermath of a broken heart, their music urges you to sway a little to and fro, to dance until you're able to forget, even if it's just for a little while. We had the chance to catch up with lead vocalist Leilani Francisco on the bands favorite gigs, how they formed, and where you can see them next.

When did you decide to make a career/focus of music?

For Mike it was a life long dream. He got his first drum kit at eleven and started his first band at fifteen. After playing in several bands over the years, he moved from Seattle to Los Angeles and met me. I had always been a singer and musician, but had never been in a band. Together we formed Tic Tic Boom! Wanting to take further control over our music and our ability to create, Mike made the decision to study audio engineering and in 2010 he attended the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA. Since then we've built our own studio in Los Angeles where we practice and record.

What’s the best gig you ever played?

Our CD release party for Reasons and Rhymes was pretty amazing. We hadn't played in several months, having been locked away writing and recording the EP in our studio. We were excited to share our new music because it had been such a labor of love for the two of us. It was our first collection of songs, which we had produced entirely on our own. We packed the Viper Room and had an awesome time.

Back in the day, most people found music on the radio or MTV. Obviously, today there is a plethora of ways to hear about new music. How do you find new bands or artists that you like to listen to?

Pandora is always a great way to find new bands and we were super excited when they chose to add Reasons and Rhymes to their library! We also follow several music blogs and try to get out and see music locally as much as possible. We're really lucky to be in a city with so many great bands. You can catch an incredible show any night of the week.

What’s the most challenging thing about being an emerging artist personally, for you?

Having to balance a job that pays with the job we love. It can be really stressful having to work a forty-hour week in order to pay the bills and still maintain the focus and energy to create music, record, practice and play shows. It's like having two lives. You have to find time for everything. Which is why I am filling out these answers at three in the morning!

What’s your next big gig coming up? When/Where?

We're really happy to be playing at this year's Sunset Junction Festival in Los Angeles. It's a cool event and one that we attend every year. It always has an eclectic line-up and very much embodies everything we love about living here.
