Find me on:
With our first ever House of Blues New Music Nights less than a month away, we’re getting our pre-show groove on and checking out the top 9 bands. And as a treat to all of you, we wanted to get the inside scoop from this year’s Sonicbids artists hitting the House of Blues stages to see how they’re preparing for this huge event. We recently caught up with Fingahz of ForTwentyDaze, Cash of Play For Keeps, and Kane of Modern Science to chat about their pre-show rituals and what it means to play on such a huge stage.

How’d the band get started? How long have you been together?

Fingahz, ForTwentyDaze: We started in early 2004 @ UNLV.  Jonah Pascua, Anthony Crisologo, and Greg Mayeda, the 3 remaining original members have been in the group for roughly 6 years now.

Cash, Play For Keeps: Play for Keeps was established by singer Cameron Dettman about 3 years ago. He is the only original member. I had become friends with the guys and once their bass player had to move and leave for his mission, I left my old band The Cab and decided to join the group. Also, newest member drummer Joseph Gilbert and Brian Jones (guitar) are the other 2 that complete the 4 piece line up.

Kane, Modern Science: Modern Science got started about 4-5 years ago when Mike and I met while I was putting together a live band for my solo project.  We hit it off and decided it was infinitely more fun making music together in a band.

What originally made you want to submit to the House of Blues New Music Nights program?

Fingahz, ForTwentyDaze: We recently opened up for Rebelution at House of Blues Las Vegas main stage, and with the enormous success of the show came opportunities such as the New Music Nights Program.

Cash, Play For Keeps: We began developing what we believed was a new aged sound and crossed all 4 of our individual influences into one. Somehow, all 4 of our ideas, per song, formed all songs into what we like to call our “sound.”

Kane, Modern Science: A good friend of ours recommended we submit for this opportunity, but we also have a long history of submitting things through Sonicbids with great success.

Do you have any band pre-show rituals? A secret handshake? A super long band practice?

Fingahz, ForTwentyDaze: As far as pre-show rituals or a secret handshake, there is no such thing.  We are devoted to join as a unit and share respect or "aloha" with each other before and after every music session.

Cash, Play For Keeps: We practice 6 days a week so it’s always super long practices… As far as shows go we do not. We kind of just give each other the “hey, do good and if you f*** up we’ll beat you up” look. Only kidding!

Kane, Modern Science: We don’t really have any pre-show rituals except hanging with each other, loosening up and getting our minds in “the zone” so we can rock!

What does playing the House of Blues mean to you and your career?

Fingahz, ForTwentyDaze: Playing House of Blues has blessed us with this great opportunity of being able to share our talents with Las Vegas, NV as well as many other cities across the nation.  This opportunity may open countless windows of learning and success.

Cash, Play For Keeps: I think playing HOB is a milestone in a new band’s career. It is a legendary venue that has had everyone you can name walk through it. Without HOB I feel some motive would be gone to have desires to play big shows. Well, at least in Vegas.

Kane, Modern Science: We’re thrilled to be playing HOB for our 4th or 5th time in the past couple of years.  It’s a wonderful stage and a classic venue.  All of our best performances to date have taken place on that stage (including our very first show) so it feels like our home turf by now.  Can’t wait to show Las Vegas what we’ve been working on!

Be sure to check out these three amazing acts at the Las Vegas House of Blues on July 13th!
