Ford’s Trip to Oz

Last week I had the pleasure to travel to Australia for an action-packed (and sleep deprived) 96 hours of international rock extravaganza. After spending 22 hours traveling and skipping June 16th entirely (thank you international dateline), I arrived in Melbourne. Scott Mesiti, our main man in Oz met me in the afternoon and we headed out to the Espy. We met a great bunch of Sonicbids artists, managers and promoters throughout the evening and then made our way to see [Me]. [Me] are absolutely amazing and I can’t wait for the album, they were to paraphrase Grandaddy, orchestra-real.

The next day we made our way across Melbourne and to Studio 52 which hosts The Kool Schools program. After a day’s meetings (including one very sad loss by the Celtics) we made our way to see Mark Collis release his CD. Then it was on to the final show for Nick O’Byrne with the amazing act S.S. Pecker. After enjoying the hip and the hop we wrapped the night at the Purple Sneakers party.

On Saturday, Scott and I made our way to Sydney for two more days of great conversations (and a little World Cup watching) at the Song Summit. This amazing event brings together songwriters from all of Australia for two days of panels workshops and amazing music. The showcases were tremendous including the trailblazing project Sydney meet Sydney. Congratulations to the good folks at ECMA, APRA and Sounds Australia for pulling off such a wonderful program. Scott and I capped it off with a delicious lunch at Bluefish with some of our Sydney based artists.

So that’s what happened when you travel 10K miles in 124 hours. Thank you to all of the great artists I met along the way and to APRA for hosting such a great event. Now can someone tell me what day it is?
