The Silver Sound MVFF+BB is actually two simultaneous events: it is a music video festival AND a battle of the bands. On January 15th, they will be returning to Brooklyn Bowl to showcase 21 of the best music videos around, along with five bands completing for the title. We sat down with Cory Choy, owner of Silver Sound, to get the inside scoop of this years festival. Here is what he had to say:
MVFF + BB is in it's 5th year, what do you think keeps it going strong?
I think that the MVFF + BB is going strong because it is an absolutely unique event. We are bringing the music and film worlds together in a way that no other event does. It also doesn't hurt to hold the festival in one of NYC's most awesome venues. What better way to watch a music video than on 10+ giant screens at the same time?
What makes MVFF + BB a unique festival and band battle?
We don't care what how famous you are, if you make an awesome video, or if your music is awesome, then we want you to be a part of our festival. We also don't care genre you are, we've showcased everything from Rap to Folk to Reggae to Rock.
As an emerging artist, what are the most important assets to bring to the stage during your event?
The most important thing to bring to the stage at our (and I think any) event is your passion and love for music and performing. It also doesn't hurt to sound great and look awesome.
Is there any particular reason that you chose Brooklyn for the location?
Brooklyn Bowl is a perfect venue for the MVFF+BB because in addition to a million giant screens they have a huge stage, wonderful sound system, great food, and room for around 600 people in the audience.
What else can we expect to see from the SilverSound team in 2014?
Watch out for our music videos from DEB OH AND THE CAVALIERS, BASEMENT BATMAN, and DEAR DENIZEN. You'll also find us all over the NYC Film and TV scene.
