Find me on:
Over the past two years, I Love Monsters has developed an accessible and unique blend of indie, pop, and dance rock. Each member of the band brings a different influence to the group. The varying musical tastes and styles (ranging from alt-country to punk to brit-rock) come together into one breathing musical monster. A strong DIY work ethic, paired with their intense live shows, has cemented I Love Monsters as a band to watch. We had the chance to chat with the guys about their CMJ experience, the next music technology revolution, and where they’re headed next.

When/How did you first start playing music?

Three of us met in college and reconnected after moving to NYC. We found Jeff (guitar) in the city and I Love Monsters was born! Our first jam session together was in our friend's kitchen and we immediately knew we had something special.

What's the best gig you ever played?

Every gig is fun. The small rooms, the big rooms, they're all great. It's all about the people that you're sharing the live experience with. Our first show at Mercury Lounge in NYC is definitely up there. And our residency at the Ace Hotel this past November was a blast!

You played at CMJ this year! What was your experience like?

It was our first time attending CMJ as an artist and it was a truly satisfying experience, especially being an unsigned band from New York City. We were proud to be a part of such a popular festival. Getting to check out some of our favorite bands from all over the world was really great. The free pop chips and cocktails in the artist's lounge weren't half bad either.

How has social media effected the way you market/promote your music?

Social Media has broken down the geographic boundaries. Traditional media is history. We are able to execute our ideas much faster, connecting with our fans each and every day. Isn't that what it's all about?

What's your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?

The cloud. Online streaming of your music collection worldwide.

What's your next big gig coming up? When/Where?

Hopefully, SXSW 2011 and another residency at the Ace Hotel in NYC.
