Find me on:
The Car Is On Fire is a three-piece pop outfit from Warsaw, Poland formed in 2002. Since their inception they have attracted some of the main figures of the Polish independent scene and have quickly been gaining fans. After signing to EMI Music Poland in May of 2005, they released their debut record to rave reviews by local critics touting them as the first Polish attempt at dance-punk, balancing its garage rock sound with infectious melodies. They have since released two more albums and are steadily gaining notice the world over. We had the chance to chat with Kuba Czubak (bass) about the band.

When/How did you first start playing music?

Well, my sister taught me to play "Norwegian Wood" on her guitar around 2000. I think it was 2002 when we played our first rehearsal. Before that each one of us played with some different bands, or at home.

What's the best gig you ever played?

It was Open'er Festival 2009 in Poland. We played a gig for 10,000 people but the atmosphere was like in a small club. It was amazing.

How has social media effected the way you market/promote your music?

Our Japanese label found us through our Myspace page. But generally the internet, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, people gathering, talkin' about stuff…it's all bull.

What's your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?

It’s hard to say, but I really hope people will start listening to albums, not only songs.

What's your next big gig coming up? When/Where?

Well, we were invited to play a support for Jean Michelle Jarre on his first concert on the surface of the moon. (Note: We know they’re joking…but how awesome would that be?)
