We’ve got a ton of opportunities on Sonicbids, from gigs to contests to licensing opportunities. Surely you are familiar with what a gig entails, but perhaps you’re curious about a song contest.
The Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is pretty amazing. The winner gets two amazing performances and an EP produced and mixed by Charlie Sexton. See, I told you it was awesome.
We caught up with 2012 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest winner Lora Faye about what it’s like to win a song contest.
Congrats on winning the 2012 edition of the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest. What were some of the things you scored?
As a part of the award, we did a set on NPR’s Mountain Stage, where we shared the stage with the most inspiring musicians, like Jason Isbell and Stephen Kellogg. We had a blast hanging with Larry Groce and the rest of the Mountain Stage folks and we can’t wait to hear the broadcast! (August 16th)
The EP that we made with NewSong for the prize is coming out on August 15th. It was recorded down at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, and was produced by Iestyn Polson, who’s worked with lots of awesome folks like David Gray and Patti Smith.
What’s the album called?
It’s called “Waltzes” and it’s a record about the playfulness around the performance of love: gender presentation, sexuality, the language of longing and lust, the melodies of rejection and deep, dark secrets.
Can’t wait to hear it. What else is coming up for you?
We recently made a beautiful black and white music video with our friends over at Glass Embassy of a live performance of one of the songs that’s going to be on the record, called “All Night.” That should be coming out very soon.
And where can people catch you live?
Our release party for the EP is happening at my favorite venue ever – Joe’s Pub, here in New York – on September 14th at 930pm. It’s gonna be a really big celebration, with a few very special guests and maybe even a few new tunes that we’re already working on for the next record.
NOTE: The 9/14 show is SOLD OUT so Lora Faye has added a second gig at Joe’s on 9/13. BUY TICKETS HERE
Killer shows and an album await the next winner of the Mountain Stage New Song Contest. It should be YOU!
