What do you hope listeners will get from your music?
We spend a good deal of time in the van, on the road, and one of our most creative time-killing games involves creating a hypothetical soundtrack in the event that Hollywood was going to make a movie about your life. If they made a movie about you, for example, what song would open the movie and play during the closing credits? We hope that someone out there has had a Sideways Reign song mean enough to them, that they would include it on their soundtrack, much like all the songs that have had that impact on us, as musicians. There is no greater honor for us, than just to have our music be a big part of someone's life.
What’s the best gig you ever played?
This year we played the Rock 'N' Roll Marathon in Seattle and thought it was so inspiring to be able to rock for those runners and keep them going towards the end of the race. It was great to see someone that had already run 24 miles light up when they saw the band and help give them the boost to keep going for the finish.
How has social media affected the way you market/promote your music?
Recently, it seems unavoidable to market or promote without social media and we certainly embrace all avenues out there to help reach new audience members. As a very DIY band, it certainly keeps us busy updating, interacting and sharing new content, videos and music with our fans. It's awesome to be able to be involved so closely with them and be able to get their feedback and advice.
What’s a creative way that you interact with your fans? Live? Online?
We've just started a series on our YouTube channel called "Live from the Living Room", where I will be previewing solo acoustic versions of the songs on our next album. The videos are being recorded in the living room of my cabin and seem to be such a great intimate opportunity to see and hear the songs from a completely different perspective than at our shows. It's definitely a ton of fun too.
What’s your next big gig coming up? When/Where?
With a ton of hard work and a good deal of luck, we're hoping our next big show is this fall with Sonicbids and The Planetary Group in China! Kidding aside, we're currently planning a US acoustic tour for this fall and hopefully we'll be having lots of great shows coming up soon - lots more details and updates will be available soon.
