Find me on:
Sydney Wayser is a French-American, New York-based singer-songwriter who plays guitar, piano and children's toys. Growing up in Los Angeles with summers spent in Paris, she draws on a wide range of influences and inspirations from Edith Piaf, John Lennon, Jeff Buckley, & Sigur Ros. We recently caught up with this unique singer/songwriter to chat about her newest record, her favorite gig and where you can see her next.

What do you hope listeners will get from your music?

My newest record, Bell Choir Coast, was created when I needed an escape from New York City.  My world at that time was feeling very heavy and daunting so I created my own fictional land (Bell Choir Coast) to be my release from the pressure and stresses I was putting on myself.  I hope when people listen to the music they can sense the warmth and happiness of the world I wanted to be in.  I hope it transports them to a fairy tale.

What’s the best gig you ever played?

We just played a release show for Bell Choir Coast at Joe's Pub and that was pretty magical.  Lots of friends, family and fans getting together, singing and dancing.  The room was filled with love that night from the stage and from the audience!

How has social media affected the way you market/promote your music?

Social media is a way for me to update my fans in real time with my tours, music, shenanigans, etc.  I use the networking sites as a way to convey a "day in the life with Sydney".  I don't over think it. I just have fun!

What’s a creative way that you interact with your fans? Live? Online?

Since my newest record is about a fictional land, I wanted to make something physical that could make it more tangible so I created mini inspirations in a bottle.  I took glass bottles, filled them with artifacts from the land (coral, seashells, feathers, leaves, etc.) and wrote a personal inspiration that I used for the record (examples: witchcraft, cave dwellings, moon exploration).  I would give them away at shows and encourage people to use the inspirations for themselves.  It created a chain of inspiration and creation.

What’s your next big gig coming up? When/Where?

I am currently writing this from my tour van.  Zach Mangan (Drummer) and Gabriel Duncan (Guitar/Bass) are joining me!  We're on the road with Blitzen Trapper until min-June and have been having a blast so far!  They are wonderful guys, both talented and kind.  I feel very thankful to be sharing the stage with them each night!
