Mixing classic pop and disco with expansive, emotional melodies, The Jezabels have created a sound that is all their own. At live shows, the audiences are usually struck by the energy, intellect, and intense honesty that the band brings to the stage. We’re extremely happy to announce that they will be taking the stage at our Official Sonicbids SXSW Party on March 18th in Austin. We had the chance to chat with pianist Heather about her musical training, the band’s best gig, and where they’re heading next.

When/How did you first start playing music?

I started playing piano when I was 4 years old and have taken classical lessons ever since. I went through all the exams and stuff, and that has been the basis of my learning.

What's the best gig you ever played?

We did a really awesome show in a place called Wave Rock in Western Australia. It was a beautiful place in the desert. We went swimming in salt lakes and for some reason the salt turns the water bright pink.

How has social media effected the way you market/promote your music?

We have a Facebook page and Twitter account. They allow you to have close contact with your fans so you can give them information instantly about gigs, etc. However, now people expect answers instantly to questions they may have, so you really have to make sure you are proactive with it.

What's your prediction for the next big advancement in how we find/listen to/share music?

I really can't see how they can stop people downloading free music. But I think it has created a reaction in some people. Vinyl is now coming back. I think there will always be a group of people that want the hard copy or that little bit of extra information, though if downloading free music means more people are listening, then so be it!

You’ll be playing our SXSW party! What are your SXSW plans?

I can't wait to be in Austin! I have never been there before so I have no idea what to expect. I have heard great things about SXSW. I'm looking forward to wandering and listening to bands. It’s going to be great!

Any other big gigs coming up? When/Where?

Before we get to Austin we will be in Canada doing some shows, and when we get back we have a few big shows in Australia for our headline tour, which will be very exciting.
