Using technology to engage with music fans

As a touring band, you build your fanbase one pair of ears at a time. Creating that following is one of the most important things you have to do. Your music is obviously the primary cornerstone in the fan-band relationship, but it takes more than just that to build the connection.

We love finding new technology that helps bands engage with their fans, and using Magisto is a great way to help your fans get to know you better. They want the inside view, backstage access, behind-the-scenes of your life. Why not give them a glimpse in a video they can watch right on their phones?

You can shoot some video on your phone (or your preferred camera,) upload it to Magisto's site, add in one of your songs, and the app does the rest of the hard work. You don't have to worry about editing, video transitions, leveling audio, or file formats. Push button, get video.

So what's the best way to use Magisto for fan engagement? Here are three tips:

1. Keep it simple.

You don't need to storyboard the whole thing. It doesn't require an M. Night Shyamalan-style plot twist – just show your fans who you are.

2. Go for authenticity.

Take some quick videos that show your life offstage and use those. Shoot your rehearsal space, an impromptu jam session, the group getting lunch, or your drummer falling asleep while pumping gas into the van. These are the moments your fans can relate to.

3. Share and engage.

Once you create the video on Magisto, share it with your fans. Ask them what they want to see next time – not only will you be creating conversations with your fans, but you'll also get plenty of video ideas for the future!
