What's this new venue database thing?

Hey all,

You may have heard from Panos about a new feature called venue database.  Basically we put together a database of over 4,500 venues and plugged it into a completely redesigned tool for adding calendar dates.  The end result is a faster way to add calendar dates to your EPK.  In the near future we’ll be updating the way calendar dates are displayed to take advantage of the additional information we get as a result of linking a calendar date to a specific venue (e.g. automatically link to Google Maps for directions).  I put together a short video to demonstrate how the new process works:

A few other things to note

We had to make a few tough decisions during the process of designing this new tool which I’d like to call out.

  • Our venue database is largely based in the US. Artists who are gigging in other countries will need to go through the extra step of adding a venue more often than US artists.  We expect this to be a temporary issue since the venue database is designed to grow based on what’s missing.  After a few months the experience should be pretty much the same for all artists.

  • We had to discontinue the bulk calendar upload tool.  A small percentage of our artists used a tool to upload multiple calendar dates in a CSV file.  Unfortunately continuing to support that feature with our new venue database would have been more cumbersome than entering dates individually.  If you’re someone that used the CSV upload tool on a regular basis, please try using the new system we have for a bit and let us know your feedback.

As always feel free to post feedback here or drop me a line on Twitter.

Rock on,

Lou
